LESSON
PUTTING
The green is where a lot of matches and tournaments are won and lost. The common saying of "Drive for show and putt for dough" is almost always true. Although putting is the finishing touch to each hole, you should always try to approach your putts with a relaxed, but determined and confident approach. Try to maintain a steady upper body throughout the shot.
Putter Position | |||||||||||||||
Hit the ball squarely in the center of the putter. Make sure the hitting surface of the putter is horizontal to the surface of the green. | The edge of the putter when viewed from the top is at right angle to the intended direction of the swing.
Posture | |||||||||||||||
1. Though this is the finishing shot to each hole, you should take a relaxed approach to putting. | 2. Your eyes should be on top or slightly behind the ball.
3. Relax your forearm when ready to putt. Put your weight on the front foot. | 4. Take the putter back slowly and count '1'.
5. Swing the putter forward and count '2'. Make sure the upper body remains steady throughout the putt.
Place a few balls around the hole and start making putts from all directions. This will help you learn to adjust your aim with different breaks around the hole. Go through the same routine for every putt. | Place golf balls in a straight line leading to the hole. Start with the ball nearest to the hole and work your way from the hole. You will be able to refine your touch with the putter with regard to distance from the hole.
